Design for Interchangeability, Assembly and Manufacturing
Course: 2.810 Manufacturing Processes and Systems [MIT]
Collaborators: Ben Schilling, Gokce, Solakoglu, Stephanie Proule, Sai Nithin Reddy, Pantelis Gkaliamoutsas
The objective of this team project was to design and build 6 remote-controlled (RC) cars with an interchangeable control box using design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles. Each car had to meet specific requirements which were provided at the following link: http://web.mit.edu/2.810/www/team-project.html. Upon completion of manufacturing and assembly, the cars were raced in a relay against other teams in a final competition. This report will briefly present the team’s design goals, an overview of the design, key decisions, and challenges.
